General FAQs

Q: Who are you?
A: www.classicalmusicroyaltyfree.com and 'Apollo Symphony Orchestra' are owned by Chris Worth Productions - a UK business who licenses music for all types of media, (visit the Chris Worth Productions royalty free music library for all your other stock music needs).
Over a three year period, the finest classical musicians and singers from the UK and Europe recorded a huge range of classical works from over forty composers. This site is the home of their work.

Q: What is royalty free music?
A: Sometimes called buyout music, stock music or copyright free music, it is music that you only pay one licence fee to be granted the synchronisation rights. So, as soon as you have paid the appropriate licence fee, you can use the music as many times up to the limit of that licence without having to pay any subsequent fees.
For example - our standard licence allows you to copy up to 5000 DVDs. So you pay the screen price for the tracks you want and then you can release your DVDs in batches over time up to that 5000 limit without having to pay any further fees, or requiring any further paperwork.
If your intended use is outside the terms of our licence, then please contact us.

Q: I've heard the term copyright free does this mean there are no copyrights in the music?
A: The term copyright free is a little misleading as even though all these tracks are in the public domain, (a track enters the public domain 70 years after the death of the composer), there are still copyrights in the arrangements and recordings. The phrase royalty free is more accurate, due to the licensing terms described above.

Q: What can I use the music for?
A: You can use our royalty free classical music for virtually anything you can think of:
films, television, radio, DVD and video productions, websites, podcasts, multimedia presentations, animations, slideshows, events, computer and video games, incidental themes, student films and telephone on-hold systems. You can even make audio-only CDs under a separate licence. Contact us if you have any questions regarding music usage.

Q: Why is the Flash application used for playing the demo tracks?
A: Flash is a cross-platform product so you don't need a specific media player to be able to hear the audio previews.
You do of course require the Macromedia Flash plug-in. Flash is useful for so many applications that you will probably find it is well worth having, if you haven't got it already. You can download the Flash Plug-in free.

Q: How are the prices displayed?
A: You can choose to see prices in either US Dollars, GB Pounds, Euros, Canadian Dollars or Australian Dollars simply by clicking on the appropriate flag. Any applicable VAT charges will be added for customers in the UK and European Union, and any promotional codes or special offers will be calculated automatically by the checkout system.

Q: What format are the tracks in?
A: You get the tracks in both uncompressed WAV format, (16bit stereo, 44.1kHz), and very high quality MP3 format (256bit stereo, 44kHz), so you can choose which is best for you to use. Any loops are provided only in in WAV format (16 bit stereo, 44.1Khz).

Q: What other formats are available?
A: Almost every file format and sample rate is available on request, such as .aif, . wma, .ape, .ogg, and .rm. We can also provide music on DAT, DVD or CD. Please contact us with your request.

Please note: any loops are provided for download as WAV files only.

Q: Are there any rules with which I must comply?
A: Yes. Have a look at our Licence Agreement and our Terms and Conditions to familiarise yourself with permitted and prohibited uses. If the music is going to be broadcast or publicly performed you may also need to know about cue sheets.

Q: When do I need a Cue Sheet?
A: If any of the tracks are publicly performed or broadcast, you may need to complete a cue sheet detailing music used, duration, composers etc and hand this to the relevant broadcaster or collecting agancy.
If you require further information for your cue sheet please contact us.

Q: Do I have to pay royalty fees when the music is broadcast?
A: Only the broadcaster pays any royalty fees. It is usually the broadcasters responsibility to hand your cue sheets to the relevant performance rights collection agency so that any applicable royalties can be distributed.

Q: Do I have to pay royalty fees when the music is publicly performed?
A: It is highly unlikely you will be liable for any fees for any public performances, (film festivals or corporate events for example), as it is usually the responsibility of the venue to obtain the appropriate licenses. However, rulings may differ slightly depending which country you are in so you should always contact your nearest collection society who will inform you of the exact procedures. You may still be asked to produce a completed cue sheet. Contact us for further information.

Q: How is the music categorised?
A: We have placed the music in several categories to help you find your perfect royalty free music quickly. You can choose a musical period, (such as Baroque and Romantic), or by composer, or by keyword/mood, (such as Angry and Tender).
Our search facility will help filter down the various options, or you can use the free text search box to enter your own search phrases. We can also help with your selections. Please feel free to e-mail your requirements.

Q: Do you have other royalty free music styles available?
A: For all other styles of buyout music including corporate, sports, romantic, ambient, world, jazz and many others please visit our parent company site. The Chris Worth Productions royalty free music library has thousands of tracks in many different styles that will provide the perfect soundtrack to all your projects.
